Miyazaki Lantern Complete!

After plenty of time procrastinating here and there, I’ve finally completed my Miyazaki lantern! With four panels featuring fanart from my four faves of the Studio Ghibli films; My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle.

I’m not sure that I have a favorite panel of the four, as I truly love all four films…From the nostalgia and fun loving spirit of Totoro, to the bravery of Princess Mononoke, to the adventures of Sen and the romance between Howl and Sophie, I love them all! I recently bought a square lantern and plan on starting a new lantern project–I’m thinking Sailor Moon, my next favorite ๐Ÿ˜

I absolutely love how it looks in black and white, and at night when I turn on the candles inside, the light flickers and feels so cozy! ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿฎ  Of course, being the paranoid person that I am, I use remote controlled fake candles ๐Ÿ˜…

Now just have to figure out where I want to put it!

Until next time,

Art in Life, Healthy Living & Fun

So yesterday Wilson and I went to our first ever Color Vibe 5K in Morris Plains! It was super fun despite having to wait for an ungodly amount of time to get into their off site parking lot and then get shuttled to Central Park of Morris Plains. We waited in line to get parking, although saw a whole lot of ย people parking in the Shop Rite parking lot nearby and walking over, or driving in the other more empty lane only to try to cut in at the front. It was pretty aggravating..but I digress. ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿš—

When we finally parked, we had to wait in line for the shuttle buses. It was pretty interesting seeing the different outfits some runners wore, some sported tutus, others plain white tees like us, or some in full neon garb!

It was at this time that we dug out our race bibs and pinned them to our shirts. Clean white tshirts! But not for long haha ๐Ÿ˜‚

Once we got there, people were already throwing color on themselves and their friends. We joined in and got plenty on each other! Once the run started, there were stations throughout the course where volunteers would throw color at us!

Here’s the blue station! It was actually a little harder to run than we thought, as the course was a little more narrow with a lot of traffic going through. Not that we complained because both of us are not really runners anyway, haha! We did jog a little at times just to feel better though ๐Ÿ˜…

This is us fully pelted in color and at the finish line! ๐Ÿ˜€

The Color Vibe 5K was truly a great experience–a great family friendly run with a lot of people who were really nice and fun, and in general helpted to create a positive atmosphere. The myriad of bright colors flying ย through the air and on every surface seemed like we were inside a painting! We became human canvases! The feeling of a large group of happy people, from children and families, to teens, adults and seniors, all decked out in color, smiling, laughing and not being afraid of a little mess, was so invigorating and inspiring. I’m so glad we signed up for the event and we’ll remember it for years to come. Luckily it all washed out pretty easily afterwards ๐Ÿ˜…

Here’s a little video of our experience! Tried my hand at making my first video ever, and used the iMovie app on my phone ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐ŸŽž๐Ÿ“ฝ

New Lantern Project Sneak Peek

So I’ve finally gotten down to working on a new project, and it’s going to be a piece of fan art/home decor that will honor my favorite animated movies by Hayao Miyazaki!

Here I’ve started frosting the glass with Elmer’s glue, an idea I got from Pinterest, best website ever for creative inspiration ๐Ÿ˜€ Anybody want to take a guess what this will become? I’ll post pics once it’s complete! So excited!!

Speaking of Hayao Miyazaki, I also made a Ponyo-esque ramen (Jenny style which means + spicy and other doodads) a little while ago and thought I’d share here ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ’•

Other than creating art, I also love to cook and I love food styling and photography (I’m still a very much a noob at it though, but I try!) If anyone has tips, please let me know!

This is something I made today, a curry spam ramen ๐Ÿ˜ I absolutely LOVE soft boiled egg and spam. Doesn’t matter what folks say about spam, I grew up with it and it goes great with any meal! And who doesn’t like an ooey gooey creamy soft boiled egg ๐Ÿ˜‡

Until next time (hopefully with more progress on my new project!),

Jenny
